UNESCO Heritage List – new inscribtions

In the end of June 2013, during a meeting in Cambodia the World Heritage Committee decided to add new sites to the World Heritage List. After the meeting there are 19 new inscriptions: 14 cultural sites (including one in Poland), 5 natural sites.

Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, Germany
Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, China
Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration, Japan
Golestan Palace, Iran
Hill Forts of Rajasthan, India
Historic Centre of Agadez, Niger
Historic Monuments and Sites in Kaesong, Democratic People's Republic of Korea
Levuka Historical Port Town, Fiji
Medici Villas and Gardens in Tuscany, Italy
Red Bay Basque Whaling Station, Canada
University of Coimbra – Alta and Sofia, Portugal
Wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathian Region in Poland and Ukraine

The transnational property - 16 tserkvas – churches built by communities of the Eastern Orthodox and Greek Catholic faiths between the 16th and 19th centuries are situated in the eastern fringe of Eastern Europe. 8 of them are located in Poland, the other 8 in Ukraine. Wooden construction of the Orthodox Church in the Polish and Ukrainian Carpathians differ from the wooden church buildings in the rest of Europe due to their variety of forms and types, excellence of joinery design and unique style.
